I topped off the tires of both my car and truck and then bled the pressure off.

I then turned the unit around, over, upside-down and inspected it over-all for general quality; Weldment, materials, components and workmanship. Evidently it manages its power well enough to arrive and maintain its pressure rating, and seems sturdy and well made. Btw, I am a retired Quality Assurance Specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense. If I were to inspect this product for acceptance on a gov't contract, I would have no problem giving it my stamp and signature. Bottom line, a nice little compressor, especially at that (sale) price!I have needed one for a while, but kept putting it off. I'm glad I did. Now I can use it to build things, blow out my computer cases, and inflate my car and bike tires. One thing I did notice is the regulator on this unit is not very precise. If I open the regulator a bit and get it back to 90 psi on the dial and hit the trigger again, it drops down to the 75-80 psi again, but then does not go back up to 90. If I open it up to 100 psi, the same thing happens again, it will drop down while in use, but will not climb back up to the set psi. I don't know if I have a faulty regulator or not, but I have tried it with an air chuck too, and I get the same issue. I'm not crazy about all of the plastic and I am hoping everything holds out over the long term, but, so far so good.If you are just using it to fill tires or maybe rough carpentry then it works fine. However, if you are needing to rely on the regulator at all you are out of luck on this one. After messing with it for some time I figured out more or less a pattern to it. I could mess with it to get it to a pressure that I needed and it would stay there for a bit. However, after using the air for awhile the regulated pressure would drastically change. Every time air was used the pressure would drop, and often it wouldn't go back to the same value. Sometimes much higher, sometimes much lower. This is extremely frustrating when doing something that requires a fairly tight pressure range. I needed to stick between 70-80 psi and the thing would drop below 60 very often and stay there (the compressor was on and the main valve was reading 120-150). And at other times it would allow the pressure to spike to over 100psi and sit there until I noticed and messed with it to bring it back down. I bought another one from a local hardware store and with the same exact model I am having the same exact issue. I bought a secondary regulator at the same time and decided to try it out and it works fine. To install the piston ring on the piston, you might need a tool to gently open the split in the ring to fit it over the piston and down to its groove.

I am having the same problem.Has anyone replaced the cylinder on this compressor and installed a new piston ring.That involves pulling the platic fan off, and then using a puller to remove the connecting rod and bearing from the shaft. An old fashioned car battery terminal puller worked good for removing the connecting rod and bearing. Work carefully and it can be done ok, I just did it. First, pump did not build pressure about beyond 120psi.Anyway, this was an off and on incident. I manually turned the motor off and on to get by this problem. Last week friend of mine was using the compressor and did not realize about this issue. Pump kept pumping to build pressure further than 120psi. Eventually high pitch sound turned into rattling sound. So that the story. Now I've been looking at the pump. Seems like the piston bearing is broke. Rings fell out. That explains rattling. Was tyring to get the piston rod and bearing out of shaft but no luck. The hex screw that holds the fan to the shaft won't unscrew. I could turn it a quarter circle anti clock and back quarter circle clockwise but it would not give away. I did not want to put a further force on it as it could damange the plastic fan. Please advise how to get the fan removed to install a new bearing to the piston. I belive the bearing part number is 030 and hex screw is 253. The connecting rod bearing failed so opening the housing things were already conveniently disassembled.

I did some research and found a much higher quality bearing to avoid a repeat so now I'm working on reassembly. If I feed the piston down the cylinder, it would seem that the angle of the connecting rod would keep the bearing from being able to slide on the shaft, bearing press or not. The problem could be electrical in nature, but to address it, you may have to fix an underlying mechanical issue. For example, a loose drive belt can cause the motor to work harder and overheat the run capacitor, which in turn trips the breaker. A capacitor overheating can also be the result of insufficient motor lubrication or a worn pump seal. On the other hand, a capacitor can blow for no reason other than it's defective. No power? Look for a tripped breaker or GFI receptacle on the circuit. If a breaker or GFI trips repeatedly, or the compressor won't operate even if there is power, it's time to look for the cause in the compressor itself. If either one is blackened or partially melted, it has probably blown, and it's time to replace it.
